SAFED Trained DriversFleetmaster is dedicated to supplying drivers of the highest quality, and for this reason sets the standard when it comes to Health and Safety for the drivers that are supplied to its clients. All drivers, after a qualifying period, are trained to the Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving Standard (SAFED) promoted through the Road Haulage Modernisation Fund (RHMF). Fleetmaster employ 4 qualified SAFED instructors and will continue with the program although the RHMF funding ceased to be available after April 2005. During the course of the two year program, Fleetmaster trained over 550 drivers and 75 instructors. SAFED is aimed at improving the fuel-efficient driving techniques of LGV drivers whilst improving driver safety through road awareness and reducing accidents. Fuel efficiency is a very important issue with regard to health. For each 1000 litres of fuel that is used 2.6 tonnes of carbon dioxide is released in to the atmosphere. Reducing fuel consumption through safe and fuel-efficient driving can have a great impact from reduced emissions and cost savings to the haulier. SAFED Trained Drivers have enhanced their driving skills in the respect that it improves the safety of themselves, their vehicle, and other road users. Some of the benefits from the training include, reduced stress levels and increased vehicle confidence, leading to a much better driving performance. Fleetmaster are very keen to promote health and safety in the work place and due to the nature of our business it is of utmost importance that our drivers are trained to this standard. Once the driver has passed the course they are issued with a certificate stating that they have passed or passed with distinction. A large number of clients that Fleetmaster have supplied with SAFED Trained Drivers have had their own drivers trained to the standard as they have seen the benefits that can be obtained. The current figures are: 28.6% reduction in gear changes |
